“Great communication begins with connection”
Oprah Winfrey ✨
Does posting on LinkedIn feel unavoidably cringey?
Showey?
Or make you feel nauseous?
Or maybe you’re simply not sure *how* to go about it and craft content that really connects.
If you relate to any of the above, the 5-3-2 rule may be helpful!
💡 What is it?
It’s a popular content-balancing strategy designed to build authority, trust, and engagement without turning your profile into a sharkey pitch-fest.
For every 10 posts you publish on LinkedIn, the framework advises you to break them down into the following ratios:
🦉 5 Curated Posts: Share valuable insights, articles, or reports from other industry experts. Real curation involves adding your own perspective or connecting dots to make the content valuable, rather than just hitting “repost”.
🦉 3 Original Posts: Share your own original thoughts, case studies, unique frameworks, or expertise to showcase your authority.
🦉 2 Personal Posts: Share behind-the-scenes moments, professional milestones, lessons learned from a tough meeting, or hobbies that humanize your brand and make you relatable. What’s surprised me most about my greatest social media successes is that the posts I’m most scared to share, because they’re the most vulnerable, always get the most likes. Remember, people love seeing imperfection and humanity in others – if nothing else, it gives others permission to be a little less perfect themselves – something of a relief in an increasingly curated world!
💡 Why Use It?
🦉 It stops “post and ghost”: Mixing value, expertise, and a human element keeps your feed from feeling repetitive.
🦉 This rives organic growth: Audiences engage more with authentic, educational, or story-driven content over constant promotional selling (or robotic, AI posts which are rarely original or written from the heart).
🦉 It builds authority: By highlighting other people’s ideas and blending them with your own, you position yourself as a well-informed professional rather than just a marketer
I hope this was helpful!
Have a magical Monday! ✨
